Don't Look Down
whatever you do."Reactions from a racist-by-association." (or "Am I more racist for trying to distance myself with 'by-association' or because my biological grandparents were probably assumable white(ish)? ›
blua:
FYI,
“[saying we all bleed red, or nobody’s life is perfect and we’re all oppressed, and etc.
is racism.]”
Precursor- This was written under the assumption that racism exists everywhere. Much like hunger, love, or greed exist everywhere: different people feel them in different ways and to different extents.
Some people whom I had no choice in being connected to set up a system which has persecuted, enslaved and imposed horrifically skewed scales of value based on skin tone. Around this same time, the people you had no active choice in being descended from were trapped, abused, and targeted by the same system. There are countless series of racial, economic and emotional experiments at play in today’s world, a;; based on systems set into motion thousands of years ago by complete strangers. I hope one day entire global generations will know unbridled international peace, but before that day comes please do not assume we are all evil. Some of us want to accentuate both racial and gender liberation. Some white men believe that equality is a human right. Some even devote their lives to trying to make it happen.
“Many white people are racist just because they were brought up not to consider the needs of non-whites and not to consider that this is a white supremacist country, not because they hate non-whites necessarily. But that is no matter to me. It’s still racism.”
Why propel hate when education is the solution? Saying that the skin color ‘white’ is evil, hateful or racist, disregards any semblance of appreciation to the complexities of anything potentially off-white in the world. Who gave you permission to assume my levels of tolerance or empathic experiences? Biologically caucasian, sub-cultural, or even naturally fair people are all bigots because they can’t help it? Do they subconsciously want the racist agenda to be continued because it’s already in their favor?
The teaching and promulgation of hate and othering is not just a white on black issue. Clumping all white people as a race into the stereotype that you hold for the dumbest, most racist crackers imaginable just ignores the real need to change the only perspectives that these dumb-asses have ever known to be true.
Yes, the Aryan neonazi supremacist is absolutely intolerable. Just because he exists somewhere in the world does not mean that all ‘caucasians’ want to circumvent race and get on with the tilted agenda already in place. We undeniably wear our skin every second of every day but what prejudices do I face that you’ll never know? What demons confront me while you claim I live a spot-free and privileged existence? How can making a blanket statement about one races’ inability to fathom another promote racial compassion?
Look me in the eyes and tell me where I personally went wrong and let us start the conversation of where we can go right. Due to factors beyond my control, I will never be, nor have the ability to change into, a person of color, but I would never assume anything less than your understanding.
(note: not targetting anyone in particular, just letting some braingears turn.)
